Gravid T. saginata proglottid from human faeces. Longer than wide, the uterus forms 15-30 lateral branches on either side (specific T. saginata character). One lateral genital opening (typical for all Taenia spp.). The eggs are released by the motile segments in human faeces. |

Adult tapeworms (10-15 meters long). Scolex with four suckers. No rostellar hooks. Short immature segments. Mature segments are squared (at the middle of the worm). Gravid segments are found at the posterior end of the worm. They are motile and drop out with faeces. |

Final host: Humans get infected by eating raw, undercooked beef containing cysticerci.
Intermediate hosts: Cattle infected when ingesting eggs from human faeces (fodder, water).
