Entamoeba histolytica
Amøber (Amoebosis)
Kingdom: Protozoa | Subphylum: Sarcodina | Order: Amoebida | Family: Entamoebidae
Trophozoites of E. histolytica. Trophozoites (the pathogenic stages) move by means of pseudopodia, contain one nucleus each, various vacuoles, and possibly inclusion bodies.
Cysts (infective stages) of E. histolytica in faecal smear. A round cyst with a maximum of four nuclei and one to three chromatoid bodies.
 
Hosts: Humans, sometimes domestic mammals (relatively rare in cats and dogs).
Location: Colon, caecum.
