Specific morphology: Adult specimen (length: 2-3.5 mm). Relatively stout louse, but smaller than the sucking louse of pigs. Abdominal segments with brownish edges. | |

General morphology of sucking lice: Wingless, dorso-ventrally flattened insects.
Head: Relatively narrow, pointed front with thin sucking mouthparts, long lateral antennae.
Thorax: Strong legs, large claws for grasping.
Abdominal segments: Black when blood-filled, wider than thorax, lateral spiracles with brown plates. | |
