Anaplasma marginale
Class: Proteobacteria | Order: Rickettsiales | Family: Anaplasmataceae
Giemsa stained Anaplasma marginale in erythrocytes. Marginally located, spherical inclusion bodies (diameter: 0.5-1 µm), dark blue or black, attached to the erythrocyte membrane. Usually single, but sometimes in pairs.
Hosts: Cattle
Intermediate hosts: Tick species of numerous genera, including Boophilus, Dermacentor, Haemaphysalis, Hyalomma, Ixodes and Rhipicephalus.
Location: Erythrocytes
Causes bovine “Gall sickness”, which is widespread in the tropics and subtropical regions.
