Bacterial Morphology
This category contains photographs of pure cultures of bacteria covered during courses in infection microbiology at the Department of Veterinary Disease Biologi.

The cultures have been grown on Blood Agar plates (calf blood) incubated aerobically at 37°C for 24 hours, unless otherwise stated.

The photographs have been taken using direct light. In cases where the bacterium causes an alteration of the blood, for example haemolysis, a second picture of the same Blood Agar plate examined with transmitted light is shown.

Photomicrographs of phase contrast, Gram stain and India ink (nigrosin) preparations are shown. Furthermore photographs of pathological lesions caused by some of the micro-organisms are shown where appropriate.

Use the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner to choose bacterium.
