Streptococcus uberis
Streptococcus uberis Streptococcus uberis
Small greyish colonies.

The same Blood Agar plate examined with transmitted light. The colonies are surrounded by a green zone. This 'greening' is caused by the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide converting the haemoglobin to methaemoglobin in the agar.
General characteristics: Gram-positive cocci in pairs or chains of moderate length. Catalase- and oxidase-negative. Attacks sugars by fermentation. Non-motile.
