Medium-sized, raised, glistening, white colonies.
 
 
 
 
The same Blood Agar plate examined with transmitted light. The colonies are surrounded by an inner zone of complete haemolysis (delta-toxin) and an outer zone of incomplete, dark haemolysis caused by beta-toxin. The margin of the beta-haemolysis is sharp.
General characteristics: Gram-positive cocci occurring in pairs, tetrads or clusters. Catalase-positive. Attacks sugars by fermentation. Non-motile.
