Correct name: Fusobacterium necrophorum subsp. necrophorum.

This culture has been grown anaerobically on Viande-Levure medium with 5% blood for 48 hours. The colonies are medium to large sized and have a 'granular' surface.
The same medium examined with transmitted light. The colonies are surrounded by a wide beta-haemolytic zone.
 
  
 
 
General characteristics: Gram-negative rods. Catalase- and oxidase-negative. Attacks sugars fermentatively. Obligately anaerobic. Non-motile.
