Pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)
Pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)
Separation of large fragments of DNA cut with the restriction enzyme XbaI in agarose gel by PFGE. DNA fragments appear as distinct white bands under UV-light.

Lane 1 is a molecular weigth marker made up of polymers of phage lambda (48.5 kb per unit).

Lanes 2-5 are strains that has been typed. Sizing of fragments is done by comparison to the molecular size marker and allocation into types is based on the number and sizes of fragments.

The strains in lane 2 and 4 are of the same type.
