Rambach Agar (Rambach)
Rambach Agar Rambach Agar
Salmonella on Rambach Agar.
Escherichia coli on Rambach Agar.
A differential diagnostic medium for identifying Salmonella species in foods and clinical samples. Sodium deoxycholate inhibits Gram-positive bacteria. Enterobacteriaceae are not inhibited. The medium contains propylene glycol which is utilised by Salmonella forming acid. This causes a change in colour of the pH indicator to red. Enterobacteriaceae that produce beta-galactosidase (typically the coliforms) will produce blue-green or blue-violet colonies. Other Enterobacteriaceae grow as colourless or yellow colonies.
