Malonate Test
The purpose of this test it to determine whether an organism can use malonate as it's sole source of carbon, with resulting alkalinity. The indicator used is bromthylmol blue, which turns blue when pH is high.

1. Uninoculated medium.

2. Positive reaction: Klebsiella.

3. Negative reaction: Escherichia coli.
