Pseudomonas fluorescens and other Pseudomonas species produces pyoverdin, which fluoresces in ultraviolet light when grown on Kings B agar. This pigment is watersoluble and diffuses into the agar around the colonies. |

Acinetobacter produces no pigments. |

This medium is used for detection and isolation of fluorescent bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas fluorescens, but may also be used to demonstrate pigmentation of other bacteria. |
