Brilliant Green Bile Lactose Broth (BGBL)
The main use of this medium is to verify the presence of coliforms in foods. During incubation for 24 hours at 37°C coliforms will ferment the lactose in the broth with production of gas. This gas is collected in an inverted Durham tube.

1. Uninoculated medium.

2. Positive reaction: Escherichia coli.

3. Negative reaction.
