Streptococcus agalactiae
Streptococcus agalactiae Streptococcus agalactiae
Pinpoint, semi-transparent, smooth colonies.

There is no 'greening' around the colonies due to the production of pseudocatalase which prevents the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide.

The pictures below are of another strain where there is a haemolytic zone around the colonies.

Click on the pictures to see enlarged versions.

General characteristics: Gram-positive cocci. Catalase-negative. Attacks sugars by fermentation. Non-motile.
