Photobacterium phosphoreum
Photobacterium phosphoreum
Medium sized, semitransparent colonies. Photobacterium phosphoreum can emit a blue-green light due to the production of the luciferase enzyme.

This culture has been grown on Long and Hammer Agar (1% NaCl).

 
 
 
 
 
General characteristics: Gram-negative, large, plump rods. Coccoid forms occur in older cultures. Oxidase reaction varies. Requires presence of sodium ions for growth. Motile.
