Lactobacillus buchneri
Lactobacillus buchneri
Pinpoint, semitransparent colonies. Absence of 'greening' around the colonies is common due to the production of pseudocatalase which prevents the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the agar surrounding the colonies. This culture has been incubated for 48 hours in a micro-aerobic atmosphere.

General characteristics: Gram-positive rods. Catalase-negative, but may show a catalase-positive reaction when grown on Blood Agar. Attacks sugars fermentatively and gas is produced. Non-motile. Microaerophilic.
