Carnobacterium divergens
Carnobacterium divergens Carnobacterium divergens
Pinpoint to small semi-transparent colonies. Carno means meat.

The same Blood Agar plate examined with transmitted light. There is no green zone around the colonies. C. divergens produces pseudocatalase on haem-containing media, thereby preventing the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide around the colonies.
General characteristics: Gram-positive rods. Catalase-negative. Attacks sugars fermentatively. Non-motile. Originally placed in the genus Lactobacillus but differs from these in that they don't grow on acetate agar. Most strains can grow at 0°C but none grow at 45°C.
