| General characteristics: Gram-positive rods. Catalase-negative. Attacks sugars fermentatively. Non-motile. Originally placed in the genus Lactobacillus but differs from these in that they don't grow on acetate agar. Most strains can grow at 0°C but none grow at 45°C. |
