Bacillus licheniformis Bacillus licheniformis
Initially colonies are small, circular, entire and transparent. Later they become larger, opaque, with a dull, dry and rough surface. The colonies adhere strongly to the agar.

The same Blood Agar plate examined with transmitted light. In areas of confluent growth an unspecific lysis of the bloodcells is seen due to enzymatic activity.
 
 
General characteristics: Gram-positive, long, spore-forming rods, with a diameter < 0.9 µm. Catalase-positive. Attacks sugars fermentatively. Motile.
